Build a more agile, converged network and provide new services faster with Huawei’s S9700 Agile Switch

  • Native wireless Access Controllers (ACs) let you build a wireless network without additional AC hardware; Each S9700 Switch provides 2,048 APs and can support up to 32,768 users. Support wireless communications at Tbit/s line speeds to accommodate high-bandwidth applications and alleviate bottlenecks associated with independent AC devices.
  • Unified user management features authenticate both wired and wireless users, ensuring responsive and consistent experiences for every user. Authentication methods include 802.1X, MAC, and Portal authentication; visual interfaces simplify monitoring and management – including automated processes – and support user-centric management based on domains, user groups, or timeframes.
  • Huawei’s exclusive Packet Conservation Algorithm for the Internet (iPCA) provides constant, end-to-end monitoring of every network node for every service, quickly detecting temporary interruptions and faulty ports.
  • Super Virtual Fabric (SVF) technology virtualizes the physical network of core switches, aggregation switches, and APs into a virtual “super switch,” adding flexibility and further simplification to managing the network.

The S9700 is designed for a 100G platform and provides a maximum of 8.64 Tbit/s switching capacity, which can be smoothly expanded to 18.56 Tbit/s to support high-density GE/10 GE line-speed forwarding.

Intelligent virtualization through CSS technology

S9700 Series Switches support switch fabric and service port clustering through Cluster Switching System (CSS) technology. CSS technology virtualizes multiple physical switches into one logical device that offers higher reliability, switching efficiency, flexibility, and easier management.

 

  • High reliability: Through hot backup of routes, all control plane and data plane information is backed up and forwarded continuously at Layer 3, significantly improving device reliability and performance. Inter-chassis link aggregation can also be used to eliminate single-point failures and prevent service interruption.
  • Flexibility: Service ports can be used as cluster ports to connect cluster members through optical fibers, substantially expanding clustering distance.
  • Easy management: The member switches in a cluster are managed using the same IP address, which simplifies network device and topology management, improves operation efficiency, and reduces maintenance costs.

Full-service Ethernet switching platform

S9700 Switches support distributed Layer 2 and Layer 3 MPLS VPN functions, including Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), Hierarchical VPLS (HVPLS), and Virtual Leased Line (VLL), meeting enterprise VPN access requirements.

High-performance IPv6 service support

Both the S9700 hardware and software platforms support IPv6, at the IPv6 Ready Phase 2 (Gold) designation.
Supported features include IPv4/IPv6 dual stack, various tunneling technologies, IPv6 static routes, RIPng, OSPFv3, BGP+, IS-ISv6, and IPv6 multicast to meet the requirements of independent IP and IPv4/IPv6 integrated networks.

Excellent security design

Integrated firewall card supports virtual firewalls and Network Address Translation (NAT) multi-instance, allowing multiple VPN customers to share the same firewall.
The S9700 performs Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) on access users, according to pre-defined policies. In addition, the S9700 supports 802.1x, portal, guest VLAN, and dynamic user access authentication.
For strengthened defenses, install a Huawei a Huawei next-generation firewall card in the S9700 Switch to add robust Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), anti-spam, web security, and application control functions.
Innovative energy-saving design

The S9700 uses a rotating ventilation channel, improving heat dissipation efficiency. In addition, it uses a variable-current chip to dynamically adjust the power according to traffic conditions:

 

  • Ports hibernate when not transmitting traffic or consuming power
  • IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) provides low power idle mode for the PHY line card, switching lower speed (and power) during low link utilization.
